U.S. tobacco companies, including Philip Morris USA, lost a bid to keep proposed marketing
statements on the health hazards of smoking cigarettes from
being made public during a court-supervised review process.
One of the proposed statements says: “We falsely marketed
low tar and light cigarettes as less harmful than regular
cigarettes to keep people smoking and sustain our profits.”
